An anthology of flash fiction exploring the darkest of hexes, the cruelest of jinxes and the inescapable grip of good old-fashioned black magic.
Wicked Shadow Press invites horror flash fictions featuring curses for publication in its anthology Flash of the Dead: Cursed (Expected release: November 2026).
A curse can be uttered by a scorned lover, infect a family bloodline, or buried underneath cursed grounds. It can follow you across oceans, haunt your dreams and your descendants, and strike you down the moment you expect it the least.
We want your darkest tales of curses. Ancient or modern, deserved or undeserved, broken or eternal. Whether it’s a family pact demanding blood, a spurned victim’s righteous vengeance, or a stranger’s parting words that refuse to fade, we want stories where a curse takes hold and refuses to let go.
The final date of submission is October 14, 2026
Feel free to adapt one of our WRITING PROMPTS:
- A girl is born with a strange mark on her cheek, and villagers claim she is cursed to cause great evil. Her parents disagree and move away, but then they begin seeing signs.
- A corrupt politician has been forcing himself upon vulnerable women. One victim consults a dark magician and places a deadly curse on her abuser.
- Her mother always said her great beauty was a curse. To protect herself from violent suitors and explore her ‘ugly’ side, she begins to study the dark arts.
- A runaway slave who dabbled in voodoo, cursed a large patch of land. Now a developer wants to build an amusement park on those cursed acres.
- The youngest must be sacrificed. That was their family curse and ancient pact. When no new child is born before Oliver turns 10, he finds himself alone in his large family.
- “You shall know not a moment’s peace,” the old lady muttered before storming out of his sleepy pawn shop. She disliked his deal, and now he suddenly has an endless list of urgent things to do, 24×7.

Flash Fiction: (between 100-1500 words) Please send no more than TWO flash fictions
We are considering TRANSLATED WORKS as well. Submission of translated works must be accompanied by a statement declaring that the translator has obtained the author’s permission and their publisher’s, if required.
Simultaneous Submissions are welcome but the author must inform us by e-mail as soon as the submitted piece is accepted elsewhere. Pieces cannot be withdrawn once Wicked Shadow Press informs the author of its acceptance for publication.
We consider reprints but generally do not publish them unless they are exceptional. Please mention in the mail body in case your submission is a reprint.
At present, we are unable to pay our contributors. Each contributor shall receive a COMPLIMENTARY DIGITAL COPY of the anthology as soon as it publishes.

Wicked Shadow Press uses non exclusive rights to publish in its anthologies. Authors are free to republish their work anywhere else once it has been published.
Please submit only original pieces. Wicked Shadow Press or the editor/s of the anthology shall not be responsible for any disputes arising due to plagiarism or copyright infringement.
Each piece MUST be attached with a short bio of the author, preferably within 100 words, and if possible, a photograph of the author to go along with publication.
NOTE: We typically reply within a month after receiving submissions. However, replies can be delayed under unforeseen circumstances.
